MIT Council on Academic Freedom Elects Officers

The MIT Council on Academic Freedom's new leadership team has been elected. It consists of Professors  Alex Byrne (Linguistics and Philosophy); Ian H. Hutchinson (Nuclear Science and Engineering); Piotr Indyk (EECS); Antoinette Schoar (Sloan); Brad Skow (Linguistics and Philosophy); and  Andrew Sutherland (Sloan). The Council description of itself is:

The MIT Council on Academic Freedom is a faculty organization devoted to promoting and defending freedom of expression and academic freedom at the Institute. MITCAF is independent from MIT’s administration, and membership is open to any professor (including emeriti and lecturers) who supports its mission.

MITCAF is one of several  free speech organizations at MIT. With the MIT Free Speech Alliance, the MIT chapter of the AAUP, and the Ad Hoc Committee on Academic Freedom and Campus Expression (CAFCE) it aids and encourages the preservation free speech and freedom of thought at MIT and bringing to public attention any lapses that may occur. The MIT Free Speech Alliance is happy to have so many organizations working towards a common goal, and we have supported MITCAF from its inception.
